The Most Outstanding Elementary School Pupil of Iloilo for AY 2011-2012

His academic and co-curricular records make him the epitome of excellence.

To recall, he was the best thing that happened during the checking of the test papers. We thought then that the exams, especially in Mathematics, were hard for the kids, as most scores seemed to pull down the high grades coming from the schools.

But then his paper came along. And, surprise! He got the only perfect score in Math (and highest total score)! As a bonus to those checking the papers, his computations were concise, straight-forward and methodical as he crammed the computations and answers to the 30 problems on only two sides of the yellow pad. His was the easiest paper to check (no additional points though). The elementary exams were doubly hard because calculators were not allowed. But would it be a problem to him, a living calculator?

Based on his portfolio, he made the Philippines proud when he clinched Merit and team runner-up medals in the International Math Competition in Bali, Indonesia. He bagged a Silver Medal in the 8th International Math and Science Olympiad (IMSO) held in Naga City. And last November 5, 2011 he got a Gold Medal in the World Mathematics Championship in Beijing, China. Indeed, a walking calculator!

Reserved and looking erudite, this world-class mathematician ranks first in the OSCI's Ten Outstanding Elementary School Pupils (TOESP) of Iloilo awardees and is therefore the Most Outstanding Elementary School Pupil (MOESP) of Iloilo for AY 2011-2012. He is Miguel Lorenzo L. Ildesa from the PAREF-Westbridge School, Inc.

Ildesa is not just a Science and Math whiz. He is an orator, an elected elementary representative to his school’s student council and a member of the football team which emerged as Champion in the 2011 PRISAA. Ildesa is also civic-minded. He organizes and leads his fellow students in community outreach programs where he lectures in Math and leads in tree planting and related activities.

As a tradition in the OSCI Awarding Ceremony, scheduled on March 16, 2012, the MOESP will deliver a response speech on behalf of the TOESP awardees.

Also, as a tradition the school of the MOESP will present an intermission number during the awarding program. @

The Most Outstanding Secondary School Student of Iloilo for AY 2011-2012.

We met him up-close during the Interview. He had this brooding look of a DotA character. He was cool, confident, and bursting with youthful idealism when he faced the interviewers. His answers were calculated (as if his words were culled from a well-edited piece) and spoke volumes of the exact man whose portfolio impressed us as a rounded student.

Hands down, Rey Phillip Gallos of the Iloilo National High School - he with the highest marks in Academics and Co-curricular, and he with the brooding look as if scanning the horizon for hints of a bright tomorrow - is OSCI’s Most Outstanding Secondary School Student (MOSSS) of Iloilo for AY 2011-2012 having ranked first in the list of the Ten Outstanding Secondary School Students (TOSSS) of Iloilo this academic year.

Gallos has represented his school and the Division of Iloilo (Dept. of Education) successfully in various competitions in the local up to the national level. He is an awarded orator and debater, and a champion in student gatherings for Science and Technology, Chemistry and Statistics. On the lighter side, he is a gifted color artist; his posters have earned raves and medals for him and his school.

Literally and figuratively, Gallos stands tall as the face of the outstanding secondary school students of Iloilo, a sterling exemplar of the student ‘of exemplary personal qualities that are hallmarks of the ideal Filipino youth as hope and future of the Philippines’, as printed in gold on the OSCI plaque.

As a tradition in the OSCI Awarding Ceremony, scheduled on March 16, 2012, the MOSSS will deliver a response speech on behalf of the TOSSS awardees. The school of the MOSSS will also lead the Processional and the Singing of the Pambansang Awit at the start of the program.

Also, as a tradition the MOSSS of the last academic year will be the main host of the awarding program.
