We Are Not Ordinary

Response Speech delivered by Chloe Ellesse S. Faciolan, Most Outstanding Elementary School Pupil of Iloilo, on behalf of the Ten Outstanding Elementary School Pupils of Iloilo for the Academic Year 2013-2014 (Batch Supernovas).

We Are not Ordinary. We STAND OUT.

To the members of the Outstanding Students Circle of Iloilo, honored guests, parents, teachers and coaches, fellow awardees, and guests – good afternoon.

We chose to be called Supernovas – unexpected explosions of prominence. Generally

speaking, we aren’t just the no-nonsense pupils who managed to resist days of fixing big books and running from co-curricular activity to co-curricular activity – we are ten no-longer-nobodies who are chosen to be a part of a community spearheaded by outstanding intellectuals. We aren’t just your bookie-sterotypes, we’re more than that. We’re super.
Not exaggerating, of course. As outstanding students, we must be humble of our becoming, even if we seem quite smart and talented and school-popular. In fact, we feel more blessed than super. The latter, however, has sort of the same meaning as extraordinary, capable of standing out, outstanding - a perfect description for our batch. Of all the ambitious, fame-hungry elementary pupils waiting for a chance out there, we are the ten from them, gathered here today to receive our responsibilities as model students and wardens of difference. We are the pupils brought here by hard work to continue what we have started in the past – making our own ways of difference and trademarking ourselves in the history of the Circle.

Through the efforts of the OSCI, in cooperation with DepEd Division of Iloilo, Iloilo City and Passi City, countless pupils have been vested with the responsibility as model students – including us. We have been given a life-changing chance to showcase our hidden talents. We have been praised for our efforts in being deemed worthy of being outstanding. And, now, as we partake a journey molded with honor, in behalf of the Supernovas, I thank the Circle, for accepting us as new members, for helping us to be spotlighted and known by pupils and teachers alike. Even though long after we are given this great award, we will continue our roles as former awardees, seeking for difference.

I would also like to thank our supporters, parents, and coaches in behalf of my batch, for being the reason we are here standing before you today. We thank you for the undying support you showered upon us as we move on to a higher stage of battling among brains, for being behind us  in every endeavor we worked our way into, and lastly, for helping us stand out and be different from the rest. Whatever victory we have garnered now is also yours, and we salute you for everything you have been through during this phase of life’s journey.

Lastly, we thank you, dear Lord, the Almighty Creator, for making this success possible with Your mercy. We give You back the glory and honor we have now; for none of this would be possible without your endearing love.

We are the Supernovas. We are explosive and relatively young, we are different minds coalesced in a single group, but we have one thing in common – we aren’t ordinary, and we stand out in the galaxy. Just like every batch the OSCI has awarded from the very beginning until now.

Once again, good afternoon.
