People may surmise that I could be blasé as regards awards, having chaired the Outstanding Students Circle of Iloilo for six years already. But the annual Search for TOEP and TOSSS as conducted by OSCI has always excited me.
This year two new schools are added to the winners circle – Baluarte Elementary School and Sun Yat Sen of Iloilo, Inc. – proof that quality and rounded education is not a monopoly of a few learning institutions; and that, a stab at the OSCI annual awards could be regarded as synonymous to an exemplary academic performance for both the school and the student.
I commend the schools and students who continuously support and aspire for this annual award inspite of the absence of monetary reward from the organizers. These students are the leaders and movers of tomorrow who could be the change that well meaning Filipinos are asking for in lieu of the current crop of leaders whose tenures are sated with corruption and dirty money.
Much as I am proud of this year’s awardees, I am also doubly proud of the OSCI organizers, sponsors and supporters of this activity for giving Iloilo a moment to recognize and honor the outstanding young men and women who will, in due time, make a difference in the world we live in.
To the Ten Outstanding Elementary Pupils and Ten Outstanding Secondary School Students of Iloilo for the Academic Year 2010-2011, CONGRATULATIONS! Welcome to the Outstanding Students Circle of Iloilo. We are here because WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
